46th Street Transportation Study Community Open House
February 22 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
LCC is working with Hennepin County to host a Community Open House on the County’s 46th Street Transportation Study that is underway in early 2018. After neighboring Ramsey County’s decision to pursue an alternative alignment for the Riverview Corridor rail transit project that does not involve 46th street, Hennepin County now seeks to analyze other possible safety improvements for the roadway.
The study will consider possible design alternatives that improve mobility and safety for all users, related impacts, and other opportunities to improve the corridor from Hiawatha Avenue to the Ford Parkway Bridge. Potential improvements may be implemented as part of a planned repaving project in 2019, and/or a full road reconstruction in the future. However, final implementation will depend on available funding. Hennepin County is working with the City of Minneapolis, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT), Metro Transit, and other stakeholders on the study.
The purpose of the study is to:
- Address safety concerns for people walking, biking and driving
- Evaluate different design alternatives
- Understand related impacts and opportunities along the corridor
- Identify a preferred configuration that could be implemented in coordination with routine street maintenance and/or a full road reconstruction in the future
As major part of the study, Hennepin County is coordinating a community-based process to evaluate opportunities to improve safety on 46th Street. Come share your experience as a roadway user to help set the community’s vision for this important neighborhood route! RSVP and share the event to help spread the word.
